Privacy policy

Last updated: October 20, 2026

This page explains what information Coloc collects, what it is used for, who it is shared with and how to exercise your rights. We do not sell any data and show no advertising.

1. Data controller

Data is processed by Eitan Meir Cohen. Contact: through the site's report button.

2. The data we collect

Account: name, email address, password (never stored in plain text, only as an encrypted hash), preferred language.

Listings: the apartment's address (city, neighborhood, street, house number, floor), map location, photos, price, description, details about current flatmates (age, gender, occupation, languages), lifestyle, and if you choose, a WhatsApp number.

Seeker profile: age, gender, occupation, languages, introduction, photo, budget, preferred cities, lifestyle, and if you choose to give them, your level of religious observance and your needs (kosher kitchen, Shabbat). This information is sensitive: it is optional and only used for matching.

Conversations: messages between members, saved items, alerts and conversations with the AI assistant.

Technical data: IP address (to prevent abuse: sign-ups, login attempts, messages to the assistant) and technical server logs.

Searches: the criteria of each search (cities, budget, filters selected), the page language and the number of results, recorded without any identity: no account, no cookie, no IP address.

Photos you upload are re-encoded: their metadata, including the phone's GPS location, is removed.

3. What others can see

A published listing is visible to everyone, except the house number and floor, which are only shown to members who have started a conversation with you about it. Its location on the public map is rounded to about 100 meters.

Only your first name appears on a profile or listing. Your email address is never shown to other members.

A WhatsApp number is only displayed if you chose to, and only to logged-in visitors.

A seeker profile can be hidden: it is then only visible to members you are in contact with.

4. Why we use it

To run the service you ask for: posting, searching, matching, sending messages, alerts and reminders.

For safety: content moderation, preventing scams and abuse, handling reports.

To automatically translate listings and profiles into the site's four languages.

To improve the service and prevent abuse: the site's administrators may review conversations with the AI assistant in anonymized form, with no name, email address or account ID, and with any email addresses and phone numbers written in the conversation masked.

For statistics: search criteria, recorded without any identity, tell us what people are looking for and where listings are missing.

5. Service providers and sharing

Hosting: the site and database are hosted in the Netherlands (European Union), by WorldStream B.V.

Artificial intelligence: the texts of listings and profiles (without the email address or house number) are sent to Anthropic (United States) for translation and moderation, as are your messages to the search assistant. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models.

Email: the site's emails (alerts, new messages, forgotten password) are sent through Brevo (France, European Union).

Map and location: map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap's servers, and the address you type to place a listing is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim geocoding service.

We do not sell or rent any data. We only disclose it to third parties when the law requires it.

6. Cookies

Coloc only uses necessary cookies: a session cookie to keep you logged in, a cookie that remembers your language, and an anonymous cookie that counts messages sent to the assistant without an account. No advertising or analytics cookies.

The site also stores in your browser the draft of a listing or message you are writing, erased once sent or when you log out.

7. How long we keep it

Your data is kept as long as your account exists. A listing not confirmed after 30 days is hidden, not deleted.

When you delete your account, your data is immediately erased from the site. It may remain for up to 30 days in database backups, then disappears.

Technical data (expired sessions, anti-abuse counters, sent emails, anonymous conversations with the assistant) is deleted automatically after 7 to 90 days.

Conversations with the assistant are kept as long as your account exists, or for 30 days after the last message if you don't have an account. Anonymous search criteria are deleted after 90 days.

8. Your rights

You can view and correct your information at any time from "My account", "My seeker profile" and "My listings", and delete your account yourself.

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure and objection under Israel's Privacy Protection Law and, since the data is hosted in the European Union, under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). For any request: through the site's report button.

You can also contact the data protection authority of your country.

9. Security

Communication with the site is encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are stored as encrypted hashes. Access to data is limited to the service's administration.

10. Changes

This policy may change; the date of the last update is shown at the top of this page. We will let you know about any significant change.
